{"id":334,"date":"2008-06-26T23:54:41","date_gmt":"2008-06-27T05:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tom-nan.com\/?p=334"},"modified":"2023-12-31T00:42:28","modified_gmt":"2023-12-31T06:42:28","slug":"day-7-almost-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tom-nan.com\/index.php\/2008\/06\/26\/day-7-almost-there\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 7 &#8211; Almost There!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well it appears there&#8217;s WIFI available in the Laundry room of the hotel so&#8230; here we are again.&nbsp; We covered about 360 miles today.&nbsp; We moved on three geocaches.&nbsp; The first was in the sign forest, in Watson Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/tom-nan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/dsc_0004-1.jpeg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4578\" title=\"DSC_0004\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/tom-nan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/dsc_0029-1.jpeg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4579\" title=\"DSC_0029\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/tom-nan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/dsc_0033-1-1.jpeg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4582\" title=\"DSC_0033\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are over 60,000 signs here.\u00a0 The sign forest started in 1942 during the construction of the highway.\u00a0 When the road was built signs, were put up at the intersections to tell how many miles it was to the different towns along the road.\u00a0 Well there was an army soldier who put his hometown and how many miles it was to his hometown.\u00a0 Military people do this as a tradition now, when I was in the Air Force several of the places I went had signposts showing how far it was to other places&#8230; You&#8217;ve probably even seen this on M.A.S.H. on TV too.
